amazed at how nasty & tragic pepys comes across, even as he goes from success to success... BUT it's great diary inspiration

love this a lot so far, 300 pages just for a vague sense of foreboding, but the pages are written with so much care and joy it's alright. there was a whole 5-chapter arc where Levin learns how to scythe grass and nothing happens, but it feels just as important as all the game of thrones drama in st petersburg. maybe i even enjoyed it more.

and everyone feels so alive. gah, loving it.
