Some reviews said the last bit about mothers is the best and maybe one day I’ll pick up and get there. However the idea of a killjoy feminist lacks depth and this essay doesn’t add much to the issue. ONCE AGAIN: the author has full freedom to write about whatever she wants and her experiences were definitely real and frightening and true and should be respected.

Cruel optimism, “but hope also brings the realization that if something else is possible, then the stifling wasn’t necessary or inevitable.”

“Those poets who crack down worlds open with their honesty. I learned in school to mistrust their realness and read it as e sessile feminism blathering. I learned to read their writing through their suicides as evidence of some sort of weakness. Their poetry became a kind of cautionary tale about exposing too much of yourself.”
