I’m not sure why people list this as horror. It reads more like dark fantasy. Which is fine, I’m just not seeing horror yet.

I’m slamming through this book now. I don’t want to put it down!

I’m already hooked. In the beginning, the author weaves two things going on; we’re following the main character Oskar and some unnamed man in the woods. You would read a short section with Oskar, then switch to the unnamed man, then back to Oskar, and I thought their paths were going to converge and I was getting nervous. A great start!

I am beginning to feel like I am a wayward child who has never found her door.

Putting aside for now. My edition is so old, I don’t want to ruin it by reading it. I’ll pick up another copy in the future.

I don’t like any of these characters but I don’t think I’m supposed to.

Against my better judgement, I’m starting an apocalyptic novel but this is the King of the apocalyptic novels. Pun intended. 😊

Part Two. A different font, a different story! I love a story within a story. Let’s see how this goes.

This hasn’t gripped me yet but I’m sure it will soon.

I think it’s going to finally get somewhere. I still don’t care about what’s going on in the ship and the Resurrection Beasts but there might be something finally happening with the mystery and the unreliable flashbacks.

Over halfway through and I still don’t know what’s going on and I’m getting a little frustrated with the going on on the ship when I really just want to get back to the mystery of the letters in the rewritten chapters at Canaan House. But I’m still going.
