In defense of Malthus, he lived in a time where he could only come to the conclusion that resource usage is linear (even though the Industrial Revolution would argue otherwise).

Copenhaver gives a great introduction to those who don't know anything about the history surrounding Hermes Trismegistus and other historical figures. In the introduction, the author tells us the whole book is an original translation and tells us how to read it: what symbols surrounding words are for clarification, for simplicity, etc.

So far, the prose Bulgakov uses couldn't have been lost in translation. From the cover, the Cat has shown up with other interesting figures. From encountering them, we see the protagonist go into an insane spiral searching for them and for answers.Bulgakov and these translators give a great introduction to Russian literature for the West, especially those who enjoy Dostoevsky but may not find him that appealing.
