its too good to go to bed, its picking up. every single person could be part of this cult now, there's hints everywhere. i'm super fascinated by our narrator Al and how little they engage with the world, as our POV character it puts us almost in a fly-on-the-wall position. starting to get attached to the characters when i was originally uncertain. cant wait for my next bout of energy to use to read lol

Why are you telling us about how this guy comforted her after Gilroy's death AFTER she killed him?? Why did we not see these scenes of him comforting her during the storm, or bringing her meals & encouraging her? It would have made her killing him so much more impactful and meaningful in the moment, rather than just trying to tell us why we should care after the fact

I am gonna stick with it and hope it starts to draw me in, but I am feeling very let-down so far since I had been so excited for a fun, grim pirate book and an ace MC.

The writing feels incongruently juvenile with the premise/plot it's paired with and there is SO much tell over show that I feel like I am not getting anything from this main character. But also i am only 30 pages in i should not be so quick to judge.
