Will be repeating “FOMO is a form of internalized ableism” to myself for a while

I was enjoying this as a kind of pop science book that I wouldn’t recommend to scientists but would to others. However NOT THE LHT MENTION I feel insane she is not art adjacent, the grad student deserves more credit, and I yearn for the day scientific publications include a character statement (so you know the people who did this are unpleasant)

Absolutely wild timing for a book released 9/9/2025 to include the line “ngl I miss the year where we actually had three successful assassination or whatever. Bring that energy back!! Where is it!!!” Obviously locked in and went to print MONTHS ago but just sick luck

I adore Dr. Berns but this is probably his worst book. I have to appreciate accessible explanations of techniques like DTI but there’s more marine mammal brain adventures than one would guess from the title, which excites me but can disappoint dog people. He’s one of my favorite people in academia but surely doesn’t work in a traditional way

Chapter 2 while fascinating challenged my patience as a neuroscientist but was super exciting when I tried to remove my work-related biases
