Crazy good so far

I was super confused but then I realized this is book 2 of the series 🫣

Ok, all of this happens on one page:
“My mother smiles softly…How she loves my wife.”
“But this is why I love my wife.”
“She is my land. She is my kin. My love.”

And then one page later his wife tells him he’s being exploited by the company and he says
“‘Watch your tone,’ I say tightly.”

Come on 😭

This book is insanely cool…sorry snow crash you’re not even close

Absolutely crazy that Kuang wrote this book that is “school where student becomes disillusioned with empire” and THEN wrote Babel which is the same but just infinitely worse

I thought this was corny at first, but now I’ve been charmed 🤦‍♀️

Eco-catastrophe! Ehrlich—kind of boring
The nine billion names of god, Clarke—good, reminded me a lot of bacigalupi
The man with English, Gold—meh
Space-time for sprinters, Leiber—DNF
The monster, del Rey—GREAT
The Rull—good

Report on the Barnhouse Effect,
Vonnegut—simple, but I really enjoyed
Interstellar Way-Station, Bob Tucker—mid
Strange Playfellow, Asimov—as good as remembered
Let there be light, Heinlein—I liked this one, made me curious about how solar panels were actually invented
The Halfling, leigh brackett—she wrote draft 1 of empire strikes back, and you can tell. Fun
Emergency refueling, blish—short and cool

Finished first story, “Into the Darkness” by Ross Rocklynne—apparently a huge hit in Astonishing. I thought it was super weird! I don’t know whether I liked it or not

Whoops, should’ve read dad’s review before I started this—I don’t like it very much….will try to finish quickly and read poppy wars instead

I’ve had this book for I think years at this point….just now starting it and it’s so fire

This book is super fun I’m having a great time

So excited to report that Dune is just as good as the first time I read it. Since I’ve seen the movie more recently, that’s what I remember most, and it’s been fun reading the scenes I’d forgotten that didn’t make the movie

Am I a hater? I just finished the fourth story and I haven’t loved any of them really

Short story 1/9: time travel is so hard for me to understand…but I liked this story! It was more heartwarming than your average sci for short story
