The book's rhythms are not unlike those of the great Haitian goudou-goudou (earthquake). It's an enjoyable read that's different from most books.

Fantastic. I have been reading a number of books on cancer lately. This one addresses the multiplicity of the many cancers in unique ways. I learned here that cancers have been discovered in all animal species, including dinosaur fossils, as well as people in all times and cultures. The book is not concerned with the historical record only, however. The author's wife battled cancer. He discusses it detail.

I recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn about Old Florida. Rawlings' descriptions are a joy to read.
