I fucking love this book. I’ve gotten 3 quarters of the way through, backed up, restarted, and ordered the actual physical book so that I can highlight as I go. The narration by author Hazel Hayes is impeccable, and brings with it the assurance that every tone and inflection is exactly as the author intended.

Although fast and compulsively readable, each of Kiersten Modglin’s books I’ve read thus far leave something to be desired and tend to remind me of plots I’ve read or seen before. The Missing was a cross between Lost and The Most Dangerous Game, and this one is currently reminding me of the old tv show Fantasy Island. I keep expecting someone to pop out yelling “De plane! De plane!”

I’m almost halfway through book 3, and even though the series is a hot mess, I can’t seem to stop reading it. This particular book is in desperate need of a good editor- clearly the original draft had Penelope as a boy, and in several instances “boy/he/his” has not been updated to reflect the character’s change in gender. Additionally, there are several errors in continuity, grammar, and spelling.

The entire abduction scene in the first book was set around "The Wrong Girl" being kidnapped because they both had red hair. In this book, Vi's hair is all of a sudden dark??
