This is one of the best books on a musician I’ve ever read, and I’m only about a hundred pages in.
It covers the history of Detroit, the history of racism and segregation in Detroit, a history of Motown and Techno, and more—all to tell the story of J Dilla and how he formed as an artist.
My favorite parts are the TECHNICAL explanations that the author uses to explain what makes Dilla’s music remarkable.
