Normal, IL? my book tastes are getting a little too local 😭

i like that the writing and the speed changed in this. when i started, maybe 100 pages in, i was forcing myself to continue it because i was struggling to grasp each perspective and their characters, but now im hooked in the drama of the world Ellen has built.

i genuinely thought this scene was much later in the book… oh my god. this is the first time they’re together!! holy shit!!

this scene is exhilarating. idk if it’s a bar or fetish club but it’s a really fun scene

really…? she runs away with him? a first relationship in high school, vampire or not, is NOT worth all that. not when he lied to you for months and is actually sent to hunt your family and friends. i don’t care how much he loves you or wouldn’t hurt you. it’s not worth running away from your family and everything you know for someone you just met.

Black Cross? Guy was trained so well to have taken over half the book before getting discovered. And falling in love to use her while not even letting on anything suspicious? He used her being a born vampire without knowing anything against her. Also, she’s better than me. Fresh out of heartbreak and she’s gonna help. I’d need 3-5 business days locked in my room.

I don’t understand how Bianca never once mentions vampires, leading me to think she’s not one, just for her to bite and have known all along that that’s what she was. It’s confusing when you don’t mention something important like “oh yeah the mc and her whole family are vampires” until there’s an incident.

what…. just happened?? is this how we discover she’s a vampire?? for real?? i thought it was him!

How awful do you have to be to do what James Harris did and then go visit your victim at the hospital???

This book takes the meaning of vampires and spins it on its head. James Harris makes other vampires look like mortals.

a few notes:

• i hate carter. stop being so misogynistic. i hate that i have to remind myself it’s the 90’s to keep myself calm.
• don’t like how manipulative james harris is. he doesn’t deserve being referred to by only his first name.
• OH MY GOD WHATS WITH THIS LADY AND HER EAR BEING VIOLATED. that entire scene was not cool.
• “Where’s your costume?” “I’m a serial killer.” is so real

This book felt a little slow to start before it got interesting, and I really like how things are described, they’re very vivid, however. I don’t like Miss Mary. The way she’s described pretty much lists everything I don’t like about old people, i’m the way I think that they’re gross. The ice cream scene…. Food in general…. Oh it sets off some visual sensory issues. A BOOK… is setting those off…

This is honestly such an amazing start. Trying to get back to normal life and then something big happens, just like the beginning of an episode in the show, but a much bigger deal and more detail. The scene at Caroline’s house honestly felt like a scooby doo chase, but in the best way.

i can’t stand when characters “fall in love” within a very short amount of time and then go “ill kill myself if he dies, even if it means having someone else kill me” like hello?? girl you don’t even know his middle name come on now 🙄😭

Stefan continuing to compare Elena to Katherine is really bugging me. I mean, it’s very clear he only got with her because they’re doppelgängers, which is already pretty bad. That, on top of the fact that they “love each other” and admitted it after knowing each other for a very short couple of days, never formally addressing a relationship, and she’s willing to let him feed from her already??

I definitely feel like I missed a chapter. going from feeling content to Dhallios showing up challenging them was very confusing, but I’m pushing on because I like the turn Andraste’s character has taken.
