Catcher in the Rye follows Holden Caulfield, a 16 year old who has been expelled from prep school, as he avoids returning home to face the music. He is struggling with the loss of his brother, and doing his best to avoid adulthood and all the “phoniness” that comes with it. I imagine this would have been a controversial read in 1951 when it was published.
