harrowing so far

ok that's enough of this book for today. the dread is getting a bit intrusive

not even halfway through and i'm fairly convinced they're right. i will admit to being swayed by their well-articulated nightmare scenario of superintelligence 'optimizing' earth beyond the need for human input (and therefore habitation) for the interim goal of turning the sum total of human innovation into an energy producing industrial cookie-clicker style launchpad for further interplanetary expansion.

i hate that i recognized when he mentioned mencius moldbug. it's heartening that he accurately describes him as an alt right fascist but i'm a bit sketched out that he didn't identify him as Peter Thiel. as a tech guy, he definitely knows the name behind the alias, but i'll give benefit of the doubt insofar as this book's publication date around 2016-17

i really wish the newly invigorated foreign policy activists in america, particularly our students, would listen to this speech and realize their perspective of pro-ukraine and pro-hamas/palestine are self refuting and absurd. you are supporting ukraine and actively advocating for the extermination of one of their biggest allies. in doing so you undermine your own credibility and morally bankrupt yourself.
