Literally only just dawned on me that I'm reading this in April and I love how right that feels! Mind you, despite the fact this is a reread and I'm 3/4 the way through, I've still no idea why the book is called that or what April has to do with it 😂

I find some of this deeply uncomfortable. The idea of a therapist silently agreeing with a patient with terminal cancer, that it would be better for her husband if she were to die asap...because one partner being sick makes the other partner "trapped"...like what??? That's just so sad

Pip & Herbert's friendship is one of the loveliest things I've ever read. (Also the way Herbert calls Pip Handel makes me smile)

""I am very much afraid I must go, Handel, when you most need me."

"Herbert, I shall always need you, because I shall always love you; but my need is no greater now, than at another time.""

This is so crazy 😅 imagining Pip having to explain to Herbert why his arm is in a sling: "oh Miss Havisham deliberately set herself on fire and ran at me, with flames exceeding twice her height, and I had to extinguish her and we were wrestling on the floor for ages" 🤣 just your casual everyday Victorian stuff going on here

I was reallyyy dragging my feet through the first 60% of this, and not enjoying it at all...but suddenly, things have got so much better and from nowhere I've become sooo invested!! The characters are epic. Can't wait to see how it ends now (pls let it be a happy ending)

"Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlaying our hard hearts. I was better after I had cried, than before - more sorry, more aware of my own ingratitude, more gentle."

Only one chapter in but already I must apologise to Mr Dickens for having always said he's not for me before. The prose is *exquisite*! Thank you uni for making me finally read some Charles Dickens

Why is it that the one time I'm actually sitting on a bench reading a book in public and someone actually asks me what I'm reading...it's a children's book 🤣. In all honesty though I used to LOVE this book and it is still so charming 🥹. I'd forgotten just how much!!

I bought this on a whim, as it was on a 99p kindle deal, but it has already been far more beautiful than I could have expected...

"I hope when you meet the young Stephen Fry who lurks within, you will enjoy his company. He means well and, like you and everyone else in the world, he is only looking for love. That is his besetting sin and redeeming virtue." ~ page ii, Introduction

I'd somehow forgotten how much I love Fanny Price and her random philosophical musings about trees
