Enjoyable. The concept was what hooked me. The action kept me reading. Not really good enough to recommend it revisit, though it would likely make a good straight to video movie.

Very enjoyable, both as a novel and as a sort of living artifact. The characters, their views, interests, and language are all of an era so removed from the present that it is much like a foreign country. Along with that strangeness is the readers understanding that the period the novel depicts, WWI, is one that has shaped the world we live in today.

Chose to read this as a tribute to the writers of Archer, the animated series. The book appeared as bedtime reading for Mallory Archer in an episode. Quite often the series quietly includes references to its espionage milieu, usually only by including details and small but authentic touches; clearly, the writers respect their audience.

Might put this aside; it takes more than period dialogue to conjure an era.
