I had to listen in small chunks. It gets a bit dry, but it is history and that happens. This book has a lot of detailed accounts of racism in American against Chinese people, and tells the long standing tale of people pushing back against the refusal by both American culture and government to recognize that "all men are created equal". Immigrant history is American history.

Maybe I'm just not in the mood but I have not been able to pay attention to any of the stories.

This sounds like a lot of the crazy tech bros - mass control, smart people should have more kids. But rallies against tech because Ted K. Blamed the media for the fact that he was gay or trans and he turned to a deep self hatred. Sucks to suck. What a fucking asshole.

Gave up pretty early. I just don't like the pacing.

I am not a fan. It reads like a late 50's Zeitgeist and I have no nostalgia for the time period.

I have had a good time reading this in 2025 since it is set in 2025-2026 but really so far it is not very thrilling. Maybe the series is a slow burn.

I found this super boring

The intro alone was enough to stop reading.

I didn't finish this book. Tried a random horror book and we just weren't hitting it off.

I tried to like it but it just didn't connect with me.

Unfortunately resonates.

I did not learn any lessons.

Loved it

There is a surprise polyamorous relationship that is far more responsible and mature (not the x rated mature) than most teen centered books dare go, at least in the US. But European art is more open so there's that. It's not great. Very wordy for a graphic novel. And the Netflix version does little to change my mind. Oh well, it was damn near free. Gonna donate it.

Read this for work. Our ELA program uses only part of this book. Its a shame bc reading the whole thing gives it so much more meaning.

Only took me 5 years of off and on reading. Why, no idea, but I liked it all the same.

Really just a list of books

I hated this. I think I would have loved it 20 years ago.

This "classic" book is awful. It does not hold up over the years. The only thing it serves is to show how shitty the patriarchy is and how strict social orders and class castes fuck everyone over.

I think she was checking off boxes on the hustle culture to do list. Write a book, check.

The first 6 hours are interesting. The rest of the 14 hours seems to rehash the same ideas over and over. I def skipped through it.

I have hated this book the whole time I listened to it. I don't think it is a masterpiece. I think it is poverty porn written by a raging racist.

I like the premise but the book is a mess. The audio version sounds like it was recorded in secret in a library. Whispered and mumbled.

I hate this book. Not the language or the history, I like stuff like that, but because how little has changed for women since it was published. We still fight for equality. But also having the main character simp after a rich man is a turn off too.

Not as good as the first one. Gave up, moved on.

It's depressing to know that our society has learned absolutely nothing from the past. These disasters still happen and now it's even harder to get help. But let's keep voting for the same two political parties over and over and wait for change...

I do not reccomend this book even if you think you'd like it. In addition to it being vague and assuming, the widespread assumptions are going to insult your intelligence.
The overall premise is that women exist to serve and uphold men, and that wanting a life for yourself outside of being a baby factory will lead to unhappiness and lesbians.
I'll take the unhappiness and lesbians over subservience any day.

My kid liked it, especially the elves.

Pretty sure this did not change me lol
