It’s interesting reading this directly after Pet Sematary. PS is a thoughtful book with a lot to say about death, grief, aging and parenthood. It’s a well-structured story with foreshadowing, character development, etc. This book doesn’t have anything to say about anything and the structure is “300 page NoSleep story”. But in terms of raw scares this demolishes PS. I had trouble falling asleep last night.

This is really phenomenal

We’ve already got an apocalyptic pandemic, a mysterious substance that defies science, an evil mother, and potential Lovecraftian horrors lurking at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Good start.

Not sure how I feel about this one. Rooney is obviously a fantastic writer but the story still feels a bit sluggish and I’m having a hard time caring too much about the characters

Finally getting to the HOTD part. For a fake history book it’s actually pretty engaging
