I don’t think I realized how much of a dark romantasy this was going to be.

Oh, no. This is much better than I expected and now I have EXPECTATIONS.

All of chapter 21 is “The Yellow Wallpaper” vibes and parallels and I am here for it. Yes to authors knowing their literary antecedents!

The romance aspect of this is hurting the investigation part.

Strongly feeling like this is going to be a DNF. Unappealing characters, limited world and magic building, juvenile writing.

I did not expect that!

What a great reveal!

The only character with a brain in this book is East. And based of tropes, I know what will happen to him and it sucks.

Feeling very let down by this book. The premise was so strong and then it veered paranormal with this past lives crap, and an insta love angle with this new girl (who is so untrustworthy and actively putting Tru in danger), and it just doesn’t feel the same as the first few chapters.

I’m not loving this but powering through. I can’t get over Fitz trying to get back into an unsupportive relationship with a girl that she essentially made her personality. Girl needs an identity.

Also, this is an a front to Roman Holiday, not a take on it, and it’s about as slow burn as arson 🙄.

After the two outstanding romances I read earlier this year, this book feels very juvenile and awkward. I may speed read to the end.

This books is fully engrossing and blowing me away. So atmospheric and so mysterious. And the layered elements of the mystery and secrets is off the charts intriguing.

I’m so deeply confused by the choices made in this book. Characters that hardly know each other (I think they’ve known each other for 3 days) are suddenly in love/lust mostly based on dreams (and often explicit dreams) he’s had about her. And suddenly the original love interest supposedly doesn’t know her? Even though they naturally built a familiarity with each other? Also, where the hell is the plot?
