This author treats southerners with distaste and blatant disregard. The main character is so unlikeable I'm finding this hard to continue. The small town vibe is played and from the 1950s. She should really learn more about people before she continues to write. Or maybe making fun of and judging an entire culture is her goal. The woke is so unnecessary but I guess it helps define how hateful the protagonist is.

I'm struggling to get through it. I'm so over the "I'm white and I hate white people" and all the anti-patriarchy BS. Life doesn't have to be as hard as some of these authors make it. This female lead is more rude and a bigger jerk than any male character could be. She didn't want to touch a glove because it has pink on it. How dare a man find her vulnerable! The ignorance is strong in this book.
