Such a fun read. Though the Jack the Ripper part was truly scary.

I will fishing it, but it’s a heavier lift than Imperium, which I devoured. It’s unusual for me to find a Robert Harris book difficult. His books usually race for me.

Graphically violent. Attempts to humanize Lady MacBeth and MacBeth. Likewise, attempts to coarsen Duncan and Malcolm.

Everything he says about the abuse he and his family experienced at the hands of the press is true. We all witnessed it. To say that he, or the rest of the royal family, deserve it or should endure it because of accident of birth is to dehumanize them. They are people. They don’t deserve mistreatment of any sort. That some of them tolerate it is not noble, it is a tragedy.

Many people will say that this is a long whine by a spoiled and bitter rich kid. And yes, sometimes while listening to him read his own book, you can hear how out of touch he can be. But he was raised in a bubble, some of his cluelessness can be explained by that bubble. What I hear is a man coming to terms with the trauma of losing his mother and of being seen as an object, dehumanized, by the press and the public.
