Explained to the plot concisely (including the Québécois separatist parts) to SpaceX engineer at bar which is a good sign. Though I’ve stalled at the granularities-of-morning-drills section. Still preferable to Eschaton. SORRY. Judging by Reddit I’m the only one not in this for bullshit. More AA pls. Not a love connect w SpaceX despite incoming IPO check (looking for a patron); he’s reading “Red Rising”

I knoww I knowww I have no reason to update after +150 pages but I just have to say that first Joelle Van Dyne chapter is probably the best piece of writing I’ve read in a long while and made a major, seemingly permanent impact. Not to mention the chapter of lessons learned in drug detox and recovery — “That, perversely, it is more fun to want something than to have it” and many more. Sooooo in it now.

The book is good but I keep returning to the fact that she was my age when Girls started and every time my blood runs cold and I understand again why envy is a deadly sin

So profoundly suicidal. Like just totally suffused with suicidal ideation and despondency. But the thing is it’s right about everything. The world has destroyed itself in the way that only an incredibly depressed person could have predicted. And at points the book actually imagines things better than how they turned out. Magically also pretty engaging and fun. I like the tone.

Feels good af to be dragged out of my reading slump by Cormac McCarthy who I normally dislike and to know that reading this is preparing me to be a leading voice in the inevitably poisonous discourse about the upcoming Lily Rose Depp / Jacob Elordi led film adaptation. I could make a TEN MINUTE TIK TOK if I wanted to.

I couldn’t read this while my parents were out of town on account of it being about a Los Angeles serial killer targeting snobby young people. But we’re so back and I have an hour and forty minutes before Red Dead Redemption is downloaded on my brother’s Xbox. If I had to describe it in a few words… if The Californians SNL was a horror movie. Diving in now.

An absolute monster of a book in more ways than one but so relevant I can’t help but be devastated the film adaptation that would’ve made it more accessible is widely considered a failure. Was Baz Luhrmann not available?

Gifted to me by mom because taking Infinite Jest to Cambodia was completely impractical. I guess I could’ve found a slim intellectual book but this is more fun. I read like 200 pages in two hours. An Olympic athlete marries the prince of a nation that is basically Monaco meets Dubai in the space between France and Italy but royal life isn’t what it seems? And they describe clothing in granular detail? Sign me up

I thought I was way further into this than I was when I logged it because I was being a fake reader and using audiobook. Literally like 40 pages in max and I logged 100. Now I’m honest. Audiobook was obviously not sufficient so now I have a physical copy and a pen and a bookmark in the footnotes section and every time I read it it’s a whole thing. Great stuff I’d quote all of page 108 if I could.

This was so gentle and then all of a sudden it was so juicy and then it got gentle again. I am no longer Margaret. I am all of them and I care about none of them.
