Boy do I hate reading about France when it wasn’t written by a French person

Uncle cooked w this one — I am having fun

Another unexpected gift from my uncle I am now hustling to finish before heading home. Not a traditional beach read, but we ball.

My uncle got me this gift for my birthday and sent it down to the beach with my mom so she could deliver it to me. Zooming through it, despite it being objectively bad, so I can send it back home with her rather than being obligated to pack it and bring it back with me.

This is the most minor pet peeve of all time, but I hate when authors use figurative language to describe something that the characters would not actually know anything about. Like why is Collum using the metaphor of a volcano just before eruption if he’s never seen a volcano, much less an erupting volcano? Why are we using firearms in similes when this tale would have happened before their invention? Pisses me off
