This sequel is much better than the first but I’m still not gripped. It’s unfortunately that the experience with the first book really didn’t connect with me. I may have also experienced a less than favorable view of this book based on many of the reviews.

Wild to think Chicago would become this populous but horrifying dystopian area

Absolutely thrilling so far, I’ve been taken by the consequences and the risks that our characters go through. The politics mixed with the magic reminds me of a more fantastical version of game of thrones. Same with an ultimate villain that can’t overshadow the schemes of humans.

What a terrifying world

“When a war was ended, the men lost their lives. but the women lost everything else.”

This book is such a great representation of the story washing that is war from men’s perspectives. The obvious becomes palpable in this book.
