coming to really enjoy hugo's writing style, its very poetic and quoteable. now i wish i could read it in french.

chapter 2 came out of left field, um im putting this down and working on les mis for a while

something about the writing reminds me of mark twain although i havent read him in like 10 years so idk if thats a relevant comparison

"her being seemed composed of shadow, with too little substance for it to possess sex" ok so we are certainly off to a start

made it out of the introduction 🎉 the translator is funny, the intro was basically just "victor hugo is an elegantly poetic writer, except when he goes on 50 chapter rants about something completely irrelevant to the plot, which i regrettably do have to abridge otherwise people would burn their copies of the book out of frustration halfway through"

only took 48 pages to return to capitalism lmao
also i unironically had the thought "wow there are so many parallels to 1984, both the authors mustve been similarly inspired" buddy its the same author 🥀

really liked "last night on earth", maybe going in third place behind kaleidescope and rocket man

just finished "the rocket man", its definitely my second or third favourite so far, i cant decide

putting "the man" in S tier just below "kaleidoscope". it reminds me of some of c.s. lewis's writings.

just finished "highway". i turned the page expecting the story to continue and it didnt, it felt like rushing up the stairs and mistakenly thinking theres another step until youre like WOAH thats it... anyway i really liked it, im just in love with bradburys style

oh my god i love kaleidescope so much wow. it feels like a dream i would have and wake up crying from.

finally starting to get interesting
