What the hell this is the best thing I’ve ever read

wow- Good Hunting may be one of my favorite sci fi/fantasy short stories I’ve ever read. Perfect use of world building to examine themes you just can’t in regular fiction. A story about reclaiming one’s identity, and the subversion of a misogynistic symbol.

It’s so funny how she wrote a 559 page novel about how intellectualism is not about aesthetics and underneath it all the characters are mediocre and pretentious, just for people on tiktok to romanticize the aesthetic of this book and yearn to be in a secret society just like Richard 😬😬

It’s like The Handmaid’s Tale but worse because it describes society’s obsession with sex/fertility but with illogical assumptions as to how we got here? Feels like I’m reading a man describing his fantasy hyper sexual society and convincing himself that this is a bad idea? But he’s not that convinced?

This book went from 4 stars to 3 to 2 as I slowly became disengaged and now it’s all the way up to 5 just for the love song of j alfred prufrock reference. It’s like Zevin knew my favorite poem and exactly how to re-engage me after chapters upon chapters of frustration with each character. No notes.

Andy Weir could’ve benefitted from a prose writing class but the plot doesn’t disappoint
