The vocabulary is hard for me to read ngl…. I like what he’s saying though he’s spitting

Holden is a jerk and antisocial but only like that to super annoying people. Sure, maybe he’s overdramatic but I see myself in him a lot. He’s a teenager talking to people that are objectively disingenuous, and I think him responding with an attitude just makes him real. He’s not only mean to other people but himself too, so I just find that even more honest. Idk

I get why people think Holden is annoying and a misogynist rn in this part of the book, but I don’t think he hates women at all. I think he just hates everyone, and if any respects women and cares about them more than men.

Throughout the book so far he has been characterized as troublesome and disobedient so I think it fits perfect, and I see some self destructive behavior can come out of that ego/self hate.

I find this strangely homoerotic and I’m not talking about McGlue and “Fag” (😭) but McGlue and Johnson.

I quite like this book, a lot for its prose. I find the setting of the book very fascinating and am open to reading other books set in/around the dark ages of Europe. I don’t know the specific details of Beowulf, only main plot points. I am very interested in reading Beowulf now tho. I plan to read it once I finish Grendel.

I’m so so so so so bored

Truly an adorably melancholic book so far. I love it so much. It incapsulates a lot of experiences and nuanced emotions I’ve never thought to put into words. It’s really easy to read and I’m excited to keep going!!

This book is taking me forever to fucking read and I have no clue why. I like the story over all; I can appreciate it. The story makes me feel gross however, and I question if the story is really as substantial as the introduction suggests. I’m also looking through the book, and I don’t feel like I love how it’s formatted.

I fw this book after reading up on it and the author. I mostly know this book as a male manipulator type thing, but it isn’t as surface level as I initially thought. Having it spoon fed to me helped me appreciate it more, otherwise I don’t think I’d make it this far. It’s interesting to see the narrator snap and lose it and have that shown through the writing. Everyone has a Tyler Durden, but un-personified.

I like the disconnect of it all but the Marla singer lore and long tangents about cars lose me almost immediately. The parts about the narrators family and background lost me as they’d bring up very shallow facts about parents and not really give us anything. Idk it’s taking me a long ass time to read and I’m not super enthralled. I catch myself falling asleep reading this so far.

The writing loses my attention because of the sort of back and forth. He’s starting to descend into his madness and it’s a lot like the movie so far. It isn’t too different. I already know who Tyler is so it’s kind of spoiled for me. This might be a book better read before the movie.

When does the book become interesting I’m so fucking bored

The main character was always morally grey but I NEVER would’ve pegged him as a rapist. He’s holding the lady hostage at this point and it’s really strange.

It took me some time to get used to her writing style, but now it’s like I can’t put it down. It’s very gruesome but so, so interesting. I’m very attached to Marcos and I want to know how the woman in the barn shows changes in his character.
