I feel like every character kind of starts behaving the same way. Sometimes Sel acts more like Nick, even Valec has moments that feel out of character. And through it all, Bree continues to hinder herself by letting bitterness get in the way of her exploring her gifts.

Though I am glad she’s starting to understand her root powers by now.

The book is very good beyond Bree’s own actions purposefully hindering her progress. I think she is too smart to let her rage get the best of her the way it continues to.

This book has a somewhat nostalgic feel, bringing me back to the golden age of dystopian stories like the Hunger Games. So far, while I don’t love that Violet is another tiny female MC, I do love that she has some serious disadvantages she has to overcome. Her joint problems and size require her to be tricky which is very realistic. Then Xaden… still getting my finger that whole thing.
