this book is very "tell", not "show"
calvin and elizabeth don't seem to be a great couple lol

reading it was slow… so decided to switch to the audiobook and start over! Emma Thompson has such a soothing voice

i had a sluggish start with this book, but switched to the audiobook and it changed the experience! ray porter is a great narrator

i fully appreciate the research Ghosh did for this book, but it was way too slow. 70 pages in and nothing has happened. other reviews say the pace picks up after a couple of hundred pages... i think other historical fiction books can nicely balance the historical research and the narrative plot / pace, this one did not unfortunately
