the amount and frequency of simile usage in this book can be overwhelming at times, but i get how that's pretty much how a southern person would tell a story. good so far. loving how ward's language changes with each narrator

really good perspectives in here from the personal liberties angle. i like how Greif positions our individual liberties in the bigger societal picture of... improving all our neighbors' lot in life. he kinda lost me in the essay about being a white boy disconnected from hip-hop music, but at least he was being honest. and there, most importantly, he was being reflective. great book of essays so far
