really good so far

my god this is hard to read. all over the place and frankly unbelievable at times. holding on just so i can finish it.

I fear I am Valuska himself.

It is so very sad reading this chapter. Fanny and Mary are just so sweet, I can’t stop myself from begging Fanny to accept Henry. The characters I despised so much I seemed to have come to love, how tragic indeed.

I can't bear to read any longer, I truly have no words to describe how much I despise Fanny at this moment. Knowing the end and who she will choose I do not know how I will finish this book.

This book might just be the worst book i’ve ever read. I’m just forcing my self to finish it at this point.

into him he’s so insufferable. Feeling like you’re the only non phony is sth i can get but having so little respect for anyone else other than yourself and being so fucking blinded in your self indulgence to see you’re way worse than everyone else is not. Somehow salinger managed to take a pretty universal teen experience and make it so unrelatable and unbearable. I don’t think I will enjoy the rest either.

than him. He has such useless insights and comments and the vocabulary of a two year old. I genuinely see what the intention of the character was but salinger managed to fail so hard that rather than coming of as a real 16 year old with a hate everything attitude it comes off as a annoying brat who thinks he know it all. I get that he doesn’t care abt his classes to study but my god someone has to slap some sense

This book has been on my to read list for a long time and i’m finally reading it solely to talk to El abt it. I knew it was a controversial book but my god Holden is the most insufferable character i’ve ever seen. He calls everyone a phony and blames all his flunking to others being a phony, meanwhile he’s the biggest one of all. He seems so high up on his horse that everything and everyone is less interesting

this book is giving me so much anxiety its going to put me in a slump

The Long and Painful Death. The middle section with nature descriptions seemed a bit out of place at first but everything made sense when we finally met the professor. The way he “greedily” ate her cake and yet called her out for making one, for taking dips in the water and going around all day. Not understanding how those are essential to writing, or understanding her. A sad man.

Read the first story; “so late in the day”. Claire’s writing is so simple and so mundane yet i was left angry and sad and deeply affected after the first 50 pages. Sabines continuous attempts to make Cathal understand, trying to voice her hurt and opinions without being labeled a cunt or a bitch. The way she cares for him although he doesn’t do anything to care for her. This felt too close to home.
