Finally taking this one off my physical bookshelf and reading it

I’ll confess I’m a bit confused this book has held itself pretty close to being an alternate perspective to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, but starting at 3/4ths of the way through, the story has jumped 20 years ahead of the setting of Twain’s work and is factually fumbling the start of the Civil War.

With the pearl being an allegory to the American Dream, this tracks why Steinbeck was on an FBI list during the red scare💀

Reading on Kindle because I wanted to lock in and doing the audiobook at the same time because I heard such wonderful reviews of it: 10/10 recommend
