This has picked up a lot from the last book, which had a lot if infighting amongst the church and King etc.

This book is the start of the second demon wars saga. Sometimes when you change main characters/introduce a second story, it can feel a bit forced/like it's being milked a bit. Not so in this case - the story has been very enjoyable, and I feel like this was part of an overarching plan! Great story so far.

This author is so underrated and this is an absolutely brilliant book series. I hope once this saga is complete, he keeps going with this type of fantasy!

This series was off to a slow start compared to the other books of Elan, but it's really getting started now and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!

It took me quite a while to get into this, but now I'm definitely immersed and loving this world C. J. Cherryh has built!

Great story so far

Already this feels like it's going to be a good book. The premise of the story so far has been enticing. Elantris has the same fallen civilization allure as Pompei, Valyria and Kelsingra (realm of the Elderlings).

Any Pompeii-esque downfall is captivating to me for some reason, especially when you add magic to the mix. The dramatized adaptation is a bonus too!

It's pretty good but it's quite hard to follow, with the sheer number of characters etc.

I have a feeling it's going to take off, and the scene is just being set in this book, so I'll persevere. I really want to find out what happens with Tattersail 😶

It's actually improved a lot with this final book

It has improved thank goodness! If you just condensed the last 3 books into one this would have been a good series.

Great start

Will they, won't they? I don't care any more but there's only 1 book left after this so I'm going to push through 🙄

I like this parting from Aelin. She was growing tiresomely cocky and too perfect. She won too often. I want to see more flaws and more challenges. More suffering? Robin Hobb has done this to me.

In this book Chaol (or as I call him 'Kale') has his recovery aided by a healer. Predictably, romance is the central theme, again. That's a little repetitive. Chaol is an a-hole imo, but at least he has some flaws!

I hope things get more interesting. I'm struggling with this & whether to continue the series. It's not dark enough and I don't care about the characters... It's a bit predictable. I'm tired of Aelin and I hate Rowan (either get together or move on PLEASE!). I am enjoying Manon though. I would like Manon to kill Aelin and Rowan but I don't think that will happen 🤣

This is the best fantasy series I have ever read. I don't want to finish it 😭 what will I do when it ends? What will come close? I have never bonded to characters the way Hobb has made me bond with them. She's a genius. These books have had me crying, laughing and begging "NO!"

This is a not a predictable hero overcomes bad guy. She expertly manipulates your emotions and makes and breaks your heart!
