Wait a damn minute…are they mentioning characters from the last book?!?!

Her DAD?! Yo..I’m not prepared for this amount of sadness when I’m away from my son :(

I’m relating so much to her wanting to be wanted, needed, and chosen. I often feel I’m just a nuisance to the majority of people in my life.

Oof the feels.

I figured it out. This author tells instead of shows…at least in the introduction…

I loved the first book. This one is reading almost like a light novel or manga. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it. Maybe it’s just the translation?

Jane’s chastisement of herself for having affections and hopes for the medium ugly- I mean Mr. Rochester, is equally parts sad and hilarious. Sad in the way that she thinks so little of herself and Mr. Rochester is going out of hubs way to make her feel this way. Hilarious, cause like…it’s so teenage coded with how emo it all is.

I find it HILARIOUS that she’s sooooo focused on grace poole that she doesn’t thing Mr Rochester is sketchy.

I WILL say, Charlotte did a phenomenal job of laying the bricks for the twist later. It’s subtle but obviously there and I really enjoy it.

Like I don’t mean to be over critical, but his immediate openness feels to me more of a man trying to force intimacy in a friendship to get more. And Jane, in her youth and inexperience, attributes it more to his character being open and communicative. Knowing what I know (and being a 35 year old woman lol), it sends red flags. lol

I am not particularly FOND of Mr. Rochester at this point in the novel. I know I (and Jane lol) eventually grow to appreciate him for what he is but the way he speaks of Adéle some how hurts. Also what the heck is wrong with Adéle’s mother. 😑

My child was whining while reading this past chapter, so I started reading aloud to him. He sat for a time, played (surprisingly gently) with the pages but then, after a few paragraphs, tried to bite the book. 🤣
