I derive a whole lot of pleasure from Mr. Brocklehurst’s humiliation. Even if it’s only in passing.

Not to be that lqbtq reader…but I’m picking up some sapphic undertones when she describes her dear friend. Maybe I’m projecting modern takes onto something most decidedly not modern, but I’m getting those vibes.

I know Mr. Brocklehurst is written to be pious, but it frankly seems he utilizes religion as a way to abuse children under his care 😑 god forbid the children don’t go hungry

It’s such a brief moment but 😭😭😭 must be my hormones and being a mom. I pictured my son and just started bawling.

OH I forgot to mention in the previous pages of Jane’s and Mrs. Reed’s frank confrontation, and the following on interaction with Bessie. I love these interactions. It does a few things for me. 1. Gives Mrs. Reed a warranted piece of her mind. 2. Bessie shows affection for Jane. 3. It shows Jane’s growth and shows the reader a beginning of her new personality. It’s a small thing but I appreciate it.

I know Mrs. Reed is WRITTEN to be horrendous and untruthful but dear lord I dislike her so much.

I’m embarrassed to admit I couldn’t figure out this word without googling it 😑of course if there’s a ‘ruthLESS’ there’s gonna be a ‘Ruth’. Did the same thing a couple of years ago with ‘whelmed’ (obviously knowing ‘overwhelmed’)

I do not understand how Mrs. Reed could accuse Jane Eyre of deceitful tendencies only because she is not a pretty child 😭 I know it is a gothic novel but it’s written so matter a factly that it hurts my soul.
