Must return to the Bechdel chapter of this book before I finish annotating Fun Home

Not used to reading comics, but Bechdel is so in love with the form that it's impossible not to get on board. The form precedes the content (this analysis may or may not intersect with my having just finished Notes On Camp).

It's moving to read a perspective so shockingly like and unlike my own.

I don't know if anything has ever made me feel so seen as the last piece in this collection. I cried.

I am often reminded of the James Baldwin quote: "You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read."

But 'my dangerous desires' put words to something I really struggle to think about.

Hollibaugh's legacy is powerful.

I love how Mezrich alternates between memoiristic accounts of the surgeries of his career and the surgeries and biographical accounts of the historical discoveries and surgeries in the field of transplant

I like that Faye refuses to focus on political talking points and puts all of her energy in to material problems with this book. That is my main comment so far.

Actually enjoying this more than I expected, pretty relatable tbh. Was trying to describe this precise genre of fiction I was craving but didn't know what to call it, kind of chick lit for strange/evil women with a hyper specific plot that makes me feel little a bit more normal. This book quenched the thirst. Very nice.

I’ve been thinking about what sells, and why. This is full of diversity, novelty, expression. I have no criticisms of any of that. But most of these stories feel a bit superficial and narcissistic. These stories do so much, except for capture the peaceful soul of a timeless love that the readers and writers deserve to believe in.

Feeling unmotivated to keep reading because I’m a cynic. I love Sophie Lewis’ theories before but her work is not grounded in reality enough to feel hopeful at the moment.

More than half way through and thinking this book was a bit over-hyped :/

I enjoyed the Evelyn's musings about balls. Ruth died and I punched the book.
