I love the idea of building up a connection reserve with your kids. She recommends 10-15 min if PNP time with kids / day. That way when parents ask to make connection deposits (chores, transitions, discipline), we have a deposit to draw from. It also helps avoid feeling like a “nagging parent.”

Loving the parenting focus on connecting with your children. So far, she hasn’t used any research to back up her ideas (for example, are all reward-based programs - including sticker charts, really going to lead to overly anxious, poorly regulated children? I don’t think that’s accurate). Have any of my friends read this??

Reminds me of Adam Grant’s think again. And podcast by Daryl Davis. Such interesting points. Making me reconsider lots of my own biases.

I’m so intrigued! For the recurs that claim it’s black and white, there is much nuance in the introduction. I’m excited to read through the untruths

Easy read. Sucker for psychology books. All based on Acuffs own experience. Liked his mantra “is it true? Is it kind?”

An entire chapter on medical residency and the dangers it presents to health, as it relates to forced sleep deprivation! No wonder residency is brutal!!

William Halstead, who started the first surgery residency at John’s Hopkins, had a morphine and cocaine drug addiction and believed that “residency” for medical doctors needed to include students LiVING at the hospital for much of their time. He was a workaholic. And he didn’t sleep like he should have. And he’s set a precedent that is so unhealthy! Yikes!

Interesting to read how the gender data gap has affected so many aspects of life - from algorithms on google to washroom design planning in malls to sizes of phone screens to voice recognition software and app design. Let’s bring more women to the table.

Wow. A key for him to survival in Auschwitz was realizing that suffering was inevitable and recognizing his bravery in enduring. Not sugar-coating. Not overly optimistic. Remembering love as the focus of his life and reason for continuing. But realizing that life would be miserable for a long while. But still with living.

When we blame our actions on being “just the way we are”
When we like the label more than the actual process

On essay 3 so far. No research cited yet. It’s all based on the author’s philosophy and quotes from authority figures. Interesting concepts, but take with a grain of salt.
