It’s becoming clear to me that her blunt way of dialogue works in movie/script format because of her camp sensibilities and gorgeous aesthetic. This book would become a cult classic like The Love Witch if it was adopted into a movie.

The constant references to other movies and books only stand to take me out of the fantasy.

gets better once they’re in their castle but the self insert aspects are a bit on the cringe side. her writing a book about Bluebeard in a book about Bluebeard… girl lets reel it back in.

reading like fan fiction at best but i still have hope

It’s been so long since I last read this. It was such an important book to me so it’s a very interesting experience.

girl, its so incredibly dense. i have to pause every minute to look up what a word or a phrase means and what painting or artist the author is referencing. its really enjoyable though.
