What do you call a slow burn romance that doesn't have any burning or romancing???
Boring as heck.

I strongly suspect that the author would have been a eugenicist and a phrenologist if this was written a hundred years ago. Total obsession with "creating beautiful children".
Is the nutritional advice any good? IDK because the author states that they prefer anecdotal evidence to statistics. Also I cannot stomach to read any farther.

When did "I released a breath I didn't know I was holding" become such a cliched phrase for YA books??

I think I'm calling it quits on this. I felt very 'meh' on the first one, but thought "hey there's potential and the author could get better at character and plot" but when listening to the audiobook feels like a chore, this sequel is not an improvement in any way.
Doesn't help that I just watched Avatar the Last Airbender and now I cannot unsee the heavy similarities, minus the likeable characters.

Just started and I've already had it up to here with emerald and citrine eyes.

Day after the main character gets a broken nose, split lip, two black eyes and various other injuries she experiences the greatest, most magical kiss of all kisses ever?? Mmmm okay there Stephenie

"'Eeet eeees ... goooooood,' said Mal in the most outrageous Suli accent I'd ever heard." Our hero everyone, dressing up as a gypsy caricature for shits and giggles.

"'Botkin can teach anyone to fight,' he said in his think accent." Ouch ouch OUCH I forgot there was an Asian martial arts teacher who speaks in a heavy accent :(

"I hated even sitting in the same room with her. ... Delicate bones, glossy black hair, perfect skin." Who does our heroine (who has several love interests herself) hate? Just those dirty women who once flirted with her boyfriend! What a charmer.

Heroine has already complained about how pale and skinny she is and felt threatened by other women! I forgot how much I didn't enjoy that in the first book.
