Plants are awesome, trees are awesome. So is this book, so far. In another life, I would have been an ethnobotanist, studying the connections between plants and people. I appreciate the author’s plant centered perspective. This book is a joy to read.

Had to take a break from this book, made me cry

Wow! Part history, part mystical exploration, part life manual. This unique memoir is beautifully written and hard to put down

Great so far. So engrossing I don’t want to put it down, but like a good meal, I need to savor it.

Very well written, original… and long. The theme of grief hits a little too close to home right now. Going to give this one a rest go back to historical fiction and eventually return. Definitely a book worth reading, not my cup of tea at the moment.

Mind blowing

Not that into it. I can see how this would appeal to someone who loves Filipino food. I appreciate that this book centers Filipino food and culture. I didn’t find the writing particularly engaging and I found the protagonist dislikable. Also, seems improbable that this small midwestern town has such a large Filipino community. Maybe I am biased because I am from the west coast…

I didn’t finish this book. I wanted to like it. It’s well written, but I never really became interested in the characters.
