Not bad by any means but I read 10 pages and then think, “yeah, that’s good enough for today”.

Currently working through my physical TBR so I have something to contribute to the book swap I’m hosting in January.

I don’t want to oversimplify this by calling this a modern day American Girl book but it kinda is a throwback to history.

I think she’s a good writer but sometimes it’s like… ok let’s put down this elaborate sentence structure, it’s not that serious! You’re describing pancit!!!

In 2020, there were a TON of Facebook moderating jobs and I nearly applied for one except my brother looked me in the eyes and said, “no, it’ll probably make you want to kill yourself”. Good call!

I’m not far enough to really have concrete thoughts yet but liking this bit about beguines and how the decentering of men/sex to center God (but irl providing freedom in a time when not accessible to women). It’s making me think of Jessica Valenti’s The Purity Myth, which frustrated me for shaming women choosing to wait for marriage and how she framed it as a choice made for men but maybe we have autonomy?

Yeah ok, this “I was your lost weekend, wasn’t I?” part of the book kills me

I need to date and be broken up with by a good woman so I can empathize with this man’s whining bc I just don’t get it

I was in the trenches as I read Ghosts but as I read this, I realize that I simply do not care about the suffering of men.

I just remembered being in my early 20s and thinking that I would love a guy in comedy and then I went on the most painful date with an improv guy that ended with me taking the red line in the opposite direction, just so I could end the date sooner.

I can’t tell if this book makes me open to love or wildly afraid of being perceived.

A character was described as “the most tragically insecure and beguilingly confident person” hmmmm, yet another thing in this book that makes me feel a little too self reflective…
