Reading this was painful. The writing is reminiscent of that of a troubled teen that’s been given a writing assignment where they have to add as many descriptors as possible to the detriment of any kind of story or flow. I like a vulgar, revolting book but some of this was extreme for extreme sake.

Will Violet never learn not to be hopeful about her plans!! Did Varrish teach her nothing about pinning everything on hope 🙃

You lost me at “feminine snakebite”
I’m close to DNF’ing this already. It’s like it’s been written by a teenager who really loves alliteration and overly describing things. Like when you’re at school and you’ve just learnt about descriptors so you use them at every possible point in a sentence.
I really wanted to love this book ugh.

“Had she really thought I would not know him? I could recognise him by touch alone, by smell, I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world” 💘

So good and feels very different to any other fantasy romance I’ve read which is a welcome change.

Great start so far, looking forward to delving deeper into the world and finding out more about the characters.

It somehow feels like too much has been crammed in to the story and timeline yet we’re not really getting anywhere, but at the same time I’m still enjoying it. I’m very conflicted with how I feel about this book.

It’s picking up again thankfully, definitely doesn’t quite have the grip that the first one had, though I’m still enjoying it.

Still hate Varrish. It’s getting a little tedious that bad things keep happening to her in what feels like every chapter. I’m halfway through the book and I’m not sure I feel like a huge amount has developed that couldn’t have been told in half the time. I’m still enjoying it despite that but I hope something good happens soon.

Amazing world building so far. Glad I have the hard copy to keep checking back on the maps! I can already see a love triangle forming hehe
