I am frustrated by this book

HEY I DIDN’T LIKE THAT ONE BIT

this is the second Barbara Kingsolver book I’ve picked up and you can absolutely tell it’s by the same person that wrote Demon Copperhead. her characters are some of the best-developed I’ve ever read! the book itself is just okay rn but I think it’s going to pick up soon.

so far very different than what I was expecting but not in a bad way. I was hoping this book would have the academia of Babel and the snark of Yellowface. There is a lingering sullen mood, the cause of which I’m guessing will be revealed eventually. It also is more of a critique of academia in the way Yellowface critiqued the publishing industry. Enjoyable but could use some silliness (as promised in her promos)
