The book is very casually misogynist.

Here we go again! I don't actually remember much of this second book so I'll admit, the starting off with Roger Wakefield as our primary focus threw me. As did the choice to only go first person when it's Claire's perspective.

A homophobic slur in the prologue for no good reason and the misogyny of specific characters jumps right off the page in these first 70 odd pages, oh good grief. Still the story seems to be more interesting than other Nora Roberts books. We'll see where it goes. But I'm definitely more interested in the murder mystery parts than the budding romance.

I like the Darkling. Nothing will change that.
