“Sometimes when we're up in Williamstown I sit out on the deck looking across our pastures to Mount Greylock, and I remember how I used to be a part of it. We hiked up the mountain, swam in the streams, rode our horses across the open fields, chopped our own Christmas tree from the woods above the house. Now it's just scenery—still beautiful, but almost as if cordoned off behind velvet ropes.”

Still don’t like it. They pretend that Cameron is smart yet he was just nervous about the shark in the tank being able to smell his blood through glass. Too dumb and corny.

I hate to be a Debby downer but why am I reading this lol. So far I have found it corny. The octopus was a bit funny in some parts so far but otherwise not impressed. No one can make Tova happy and Cameron is whiny and lazy.

First, Ruth says they found a squirrel who had been ravaged by a wolf. There are no wolves in Louisiana. Second, the accent used for the audiobook is all wrong. Southern Louisiana accent is not a “southern accent” because of the influence of French settlers. It doesn’t sound anything like the audiobook.
Third, how did the copperhead bite her thigh and not her ankle? I might have missed something.

I know Ruth grew up sheltered in what is essentially a religious cult but she’s getting a little annoying. She truly had no idea that Barry was going to propose? She acts so obviously guilty and even helpless. I prefer a more strong female role.
