Had to switch from the audiobook to print because the reader made it so difficult to follow conversations. Speech was the same intonation as narration, everyone sounded the same, and with so many villagers it was impossible. I like the book though! I miss well written mysteries.

I've got this as an ARC and it's not at all what I expected. It's fantastic.

Sorry if you got a deluge of updates, I was scanning my physical bookshelf and didn't adjust my feed settings. I am the worst but have now slightly improved.

The prose in this is so overwrought that I keep setting it aside, even though I'm enjoying the plot and characters.

Listening to this because a coworker is reading it for the first time. Might have to switch to paper because the audio is too singsong and I keep tuning out - and it's 12 hours long. It's not a poetry reading ffs.

This is a lot more competently written than I expected from the description.

I liked this book so much I stopped reading it so I didn't finish it.

Whoever decided the screeching cartoon voice this otherwise wonderful narrator is using for one of the two main characters was acceptable should get out of the audiobook business immediately.

This is so good. I want to skip work to finish it.

This is a slog. They could have cut a hundred pages of one main character's endless story and lost nothing. And the flashbacks for another main character have become tedious too.

I like this so far. I got it in large print because normal print causes me eyestrain and this book is HUGE. 875 pages.

I love these authors for having a thorough spoiler free character list at the start of the book that even includes minor characters and for leaving a line break between paragraphs. This is very middle aged lady friendly since I can't remember shit and I can't see shit.

So far this is a perfect drive to/from work audiobook. Tropey characters, zero world building. I can give this half my attention and still know what's going on. Decent reader too!

The audiobook is driving me slowly mad with "sentence" character says, "another sentence" different character says on and on and on for so many minutes. It's like 6 people (maybe?) in a car and it's never ending.

This audiobook needs a disclaimer about SI. It's incredibly depressing, but I've heard good things and while it's throwing me into a hole, it's well written thus far. But if things don't take a turn soon, I'll have to throw in the towel before it makes me feel even worse.

Ah, what a relief, I have traded the unlistenable audiobook for a hardback from the library and I'm able to enjoy the story now. I also re-read all that I had listened to and caught a lot more of the nuance since I didn't have to parse the reader's wacky intonation.

I'm really struggling with the narrator on this one but the story has me hooked. Might have to switch to text to finish the story.

I have to give up on this as an audiobook because the performance is so overacted and the accents are dreadful. I could handle the nowhere near accurate Baltimore voices because it's a very regional accent, but then Whitney sounded like Scarlet O'Hara. Then poor Jackie rolled in with a crazy accent (she's a fundraising powerhouse for the rich, I doubt she sounds like a racist stereotype) and I returned this one.
