Growing up as the daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter of “undertakers”, I am very curious about this book. So far the similarities are that we too are of Scottish/Irish descent, however I grew up with the Scottish accent and traditions around me. Also my dad played a ukulele for fun.

I found this book on my mother’s book shelf with her maiden name written inside the cover. She doesn’t remember it, but it must have been from back around 1952. I am half way through and curious to how the story will end.

Not sure if I’ll finish this one :/ the writing is very confusing in its descriptive detail and so far the story is somewhat dragging. If it wasn’t such a controversial historical piece of literature, I would not hesitate to stop reading it now.

The writer one into a dark part of city life in the early 1900’s very eloquently.

I am really enjoying this writer’s style and the story!
