I’m so excited for this Kaladin arch, I think the flash backs he gives us are so indicative of how much Kaladin cares and how he was just a normal boy before whatever leads him to war. Dalinar is a great father and seems to really care for his sons, even if Renarin isn’t a warrior like he’s expected to be. This is wonderful so far!

Kaladin is great, Szeth is a badass, Adolin seems like a douche, but I bet Shallan falls in love with him.

Very sad about Tien being Kal’s little brother. Intrigued by Shallan and her wit, I’m excited to keep seeing her interactions. I really enjoyed the flash back as well and how it ties into Kaladin’s current thoughts.

These characters are easy to admire already, they show growth and persistence and a will to live and succeed. I really enjoy the detail of spren, I think they’re so cute and I’m interested to learn more about the sentient wind spren, Syl. I’m compelled to keep reading and the writing isn’t difficult to understand at all. So far, very my enjoying.

I like that I’m just dropped into the middle of action. I find that easier to get into and want to read than a couple hundred pages of world building and then getting into the meat of things. I’m not sure who is super important yet, but I so far like Kaladin and Shallan.

The very limited fantasy elements are very intriguing. At this point I don’t know if this is a stand alone or part of a series, but I am 100% invested. I just know that I’m going to get heart broken with either Xu Da or Esen dying (although I like Xu Da way more than I like Esen).

Things are happening very suddenly, but they’re not super unexpected. I do think a lot of the treatment characters get (primarily the women and Ouyang) is undeserved (obviously). I didn’t really think Little Guo was going to make it to the end, but having your limbs and head torn off your body is a little much.

Ouyang and Zhu are like the same coin flipped. It’s interesting to see a woman being able to pass as a man to most people and achieving a certain amount of success, while a man who, through no actual fault of his own, has been “stripped” of his masculinity and still seems to be solely focused on anger and hatred. I’m actually going to be sad if any of these characters die or something.

A little confused by Xu becoming a bandit, but I still like his relationship with Zhu. I think the little teasing between Ma and Zhu is also so cute and I like them together. So far I don’t really hate any character, I think they’re all humanized pretty well.

I wasn’t expecting there to be different perspectives, but I really enjoy that in a book! Everyone’s stories are already so tragic that it really brings out the theme of “life is what you make of it”. Of course there are things we can’t control, but how we come out of it is what matters and the only approval worth having is your own.

I really like the writing so far, it feels very well thought out. Already pretty devastating and not even a hundred pages in. I like Xu and Zhu’s relationship. He seems like the older brother she never had, even when her own was I’ve he didn’t show her as much love and understanding at Xu. I will be very upset if he dies…

I kind of just really want it to be over. I’m pre ally disappointed because I loved the first one and I thought I would get more of Scarlett. Yet again she is a side character and her chapters are short and far between, leaving the book lacking. This should have been a 500-600 page book, everything is so choppy and moves on too fast for anything to matter.

I’m just really annoyed with how fast everything is getting resolved. I feel like with the other two books there was a sense of mystery, but with this one characters are coming in and then two chapters later they’re dead. I also think I have more questions than I’ll ever get answers for. I definitely think this book should have been longer :(

It’s hard for me to trust Julian, but here we are… I do like him and Scarlett and I think the tattoo is cute, but I feel like he’s still hiding stuff. Scarlett escaped too easy. I miss Dante.

It’s getting good, but also did she have to include a dog mourning for their dead owner?? Probably not. However, I like the tension between Tella and Legend. I respect her decision and I’m starting to like her a bit more. Legend kind of seems like a duck and I know he has to be behind some of this shit going awry. Excited to keep going!

Enjoying so far, but not sure how I feel about the double love triangle 🤷🏼‍♀️ Donatella still pisses me off and Scarlett is like completely clueless. So far not liking it as much as the first one…

Slow burn with lots of sexuality in between. So far the chapters are repetitive, but the relationships are enjoyable. It’s nice to get the internal workings of a mostly hated character.
