I am trying so hard to like this book... its not working.

The writing style is painful. Its like a thesaurus word vomited over the pages. I have NO IDEA what is happening. The world building and context is non-existent in my opinion. A glossary at the front has helped... um... a little... slightly... bearly...
I am promising myself at least 40% but I am confused, bored, and annoyed...

No more. I beg you. This book was painful start to finally giving up. One of my colleagues--also a teacher-- recommended this to me... and I will never understand why.
The first 20% felt like a fever dream. And maybe if there was even just 5 main povs not like 50... as a boarding school drama/mystery please tell me why the parents perspective for one weekend is also important.

Pain... first elin book...miserable.

I feel vindicated when I got to read that a lot of people actually did give this 1 star. I want to like this book so much, I was so excited and had such high hopes. But I swear this only gets worse.
It's one of my most annoying tropes: COMMUNICATE!! Just freaking tell Alexis things. And also stop like actually hating her. Like... o.m.g, everyone is so rude and hateful. It's actually physically upsetting.

Dude... why is this book loved so much when ALL but like... 2 maybe 3 characters are violent misogynistic assholes...

At least it doesn't feel as slow as the last few books I've read. But like... it's pretty aggravating that she is supposed to be like rare and special but everyone is like "shut up unless woman and die" especially her mentors who have everything to gain by just being a shred of nice and helpful.

I can't wait for this book to be over 🙄 I'm over it. Hot take, these books get worse as they go. im dissapointed at the way she is closing this series. But still have the ending to go. The ending of the first book was the best part so... 🤞 here's to hoping it gets better in the last 15%

I know i just started... but oh. My. God. I REALLY dislike Kidan. I don't read books for social commentary,so maybe I'm just ignorant, and it's done on purpose. But 55 pages in, im already done with Kidan's temper tantrums. Like she's been in the house for like 5 seconds, talked to this guy once and takes an axe to the house and has the audacity to smugly smirk.
If the goal was to get me to hate the FMC... congrats.

Also, anyone else over the troupe of villian MMC being an asshole lusting over the FMC as a character trait...? Just me... cool...cool... (lusting and obsessive over a woman is not redemption...)

Half way through... and honestly... the spice is getting to be too much... about 50% so I want to finish for the satisfaction of finishing, but the plot of the game isn't really enough to finish it anymore. Plus, I'm kinda over the villan being an asshole lusting over the FMC as a character trait...
So... on hold for now...

Mild rant.
I'm not hating on people who like spice--you do you, read what you want. I'm annoyed that "romance" is all about sex, not actual connection. Why do so many romatsy books have to be so spicy?! Im intrigued by the plot, and I'll just be reading along, and all of the sudden, the characters just "going crazy." ALSO hot-take the enemies to lovers troupe at this point needs to be renames enemies with benefits.
