how tf are all these magical supernatural creatures with godlike powers so terrified of humans and 'human fear'? Why are they hiding from humans? So silly that witches, vampires and daemons haven't taken over the world after all this time. Such an obvious narrative pitfall that needs a good explanation in urban fantasy/paranormal romance and this book doesn't even try.

I find it really hard to suspend disbelief in urban fantasy at the best of times but when there are witches, wizards, daemons and vampires moving about all over the place in broad daylight and yet they're somehow supposed to be clandestine and concealing themselves from humans because they're 'outnumbered' by humans? Any UF worth its salt needs to pay very particular attention to developing a plausible 'veil'.

why do writers keep writing male vampire love interests as creepy stalker sex pests all the damn time? Can vamps plz stop breaking into women's homes in the middle of the night and just stand there watching them sleep? Major ick. But I shall continue with this Twilight meets Da Vinci Code novel bc I am intrigued af about the special magical palimpsest.

Bambleby is an absolute riot! The contrast in FMC's and MMC's personalities is wonderful. Also, very much enjoying the eerie and eldritch fae Fawcett has conjured up. Refreshing in the current sea of stunning elven beauties in every romantasy atm. (Though Bambleby is a stunning elven handsomeboi. Plenty of fae varieties however, which I love).

this is an utterly spellbinding and mysterious af book and I am loving so much and can't put down except I need a drink break rn but will brb and full steam ahead and finish tonight <3 Susanna Clarke is peerless.

finally getting around to this book. I've been meaning to pick it up for ages and I'm really in the mood for it today. Very strange and awesome already <3
