Anyway, here are my thoughts:
1. Theo is definitely a worse person than he's letting on, and has a warped obsession with Alicia, whether it's romantic or not.
2. Alicia is not the cold-blooded murderer people say she is.
3. Kathy's whole role in the story is deeply filtered by Theo.

FURTHERMORE on the portrayal of the Turkish character.
She's described as hideous and with a beastly, intimidating size. Combined with all the other horrible qualities she was given? Wow. Our features are often called ugly and beastly compared to European ideals of beauty, and knowing this author is Greek...

Furthermore on the racist characterization.
1. Every character is given their "human" moments, except the Turkish one.
2. You only know she's Turkish because you're told so. NONE of her behaviour or qualities are tied to Turkish culture, she never talks about being Turkish, she's not said to have a Turkish accent, etc. So you slapped the Turkish label on a basic, monstrous character and called it a day. Great.

I just realized something. The author was born and raised as a Greek Cypriot. Coincidentally... the only Turkish character is an extremely angry, violent, unlikeable murderer, and all the Greek characters are sympathetic and kind. Are you fucking kidding me? This was definitely done on purpose.

i think its very ignorant to state that nobody can become an abuser without first being abused as a child. while that can be the case, it's harmful to make sweeping generalizations about mental health in particular, given how complex it is

genuinely very good so far, and its very clear who each character is paralleling (ex. major is karl marx)

also the fact that ren stole the imperial seal "out of spite to his father, not to hurt liqin's chance of being named crown prince" is also ridiculous, reckless and incredibly childish

bro theyve known each other for a literal week, which is said on page. but they already have an almost-kiss?? this is lowkey ridiculous

its really "meh" so far, unfortunately... my rating is at 2.5* at the moment

so far i feel like everything is moving too fast and the plot is confusing. wdym the prince just randomly joined the military, randomly died, and his body wasnt found until siying came to the ambush site...? huh. also shes weirdly hostile towards him and i dont understand that. plus theres a lot of telling instead of showing so far
