Just learned the name Melissa comes from a bee who was so fiercely defensive of her honey she argued with Zeus? Yeah, that checks out. All the Melissas in my life are absolute queens. Sweet as honey, but DO NOT MESS WITH THEM! Bzzz bzzz!

I've wanted to read this forever, and after picking it up at a used bookshop yesterday, it seems like the ideal contender for my next slow-paced read... the kind I pick at over the coming weeks and months. Yes, that sounds quite lovely! And Ouranos getting his dick chopped off is the perfect place to end on for today...

Final third! At this rate, I should finish this beast within a week or two. I'm really enjoying it, but do believe it's affecting my mental bandwidth for other books right now...

I've been slowly chipping away at this book, savoring a single chapter each morning with my coffee, and it's honestly been the most beautiful and relaxing way to start each day. Maria Popova is a fucking treasure, and I am in awe of her ability to bridge science and history and human nature so poetically.

Book clubbing with my kid is going about as well as you might expect... which is to say, slowly. Us reading Rainbow Rowell is just making her desperately want to read Carry On again instead, and apparently taking me along for the ride. Sometimes I'm a good mom and concede to her whims. So here we are starting Carry On, rather than finishing Scattered Showers...

Ah, the ancient art of making mixtapes (and CDs). Playlists just aren't the same! Anyway, this third story is cute and has some good messages, but I am probably going to be annoyed by every story after the last one for feeling so... typical. Hope I'm wrong!

I loved this second story, Kindred Spirits. YA romance is definitely not my genre of choice, but awkward nerds simply becoming friends (and maybe more) most certainly is. I laughed a lot and loved all the characters. CUTE. No book club meeting with my kid yet for this one (because she hasn't read it yet), but maybe tomorrow...

My 12-year-old and I are starting a lil' book club together, to encourage her to read some books she's been hoarding, and for me to share in some of her book interests. We're starting with this because Carry On is one of her favorites and apparently there's a Simon Snow story in here. We're gonna go one story at a time. We just had our first "book club meeting" to discuss the first story! I love this for us.
